Who can use Automised Energy?

Three things need to be true.

1. Your place is connected to the grid in the National Electricity Market. That's NSW, ACT, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.
2. You buy your electricity from an authorised provider (see provider status for detailed availability per provder).
3. You can share your data with us through the Consumer Data Right, the government backed system that lets your provider hand your own data straight to us, with your permission.

Homes and small businesses both qualify.

Western Australia and the Northern Territory

Both sit outside the National Electricity Market on their own grids, with their own providers, their own plans and their own rules. We can't help there yet.

Large business

Big electricity users (>100MWh per year) are not able to share their data with us via the Consumer Data Right. We've built this for homes and small businesses.

Small business, one extra step

Business accounts work the same way as homes most of the time. Sometimes, before data can be shared your provider needs a nominated representative recorded on the account. That's arranged with your provider, not with us.

Apartment blocks, retirement villages and caravan parks

If your electricity is billed by the building, the body corporate or the park operator rather than directly by a provider, you're in what's called an embedded network. Your seller holds an exemption from the regulator instead of a retail licence, which means we are unable to access your data. You'd need to be able to buy from a provider in your own right first, and in most embedded networks that isn't practical.

A few other things people ask

• Solar and batteries. Supported. We use your export data as well as your usage, so feed-in rates are factored into the match. One thing we aren't able to do just yet is simulate various battery discharge profiles under 'what-if' type scenarios. This is on the roadmap!
• Demand tariffs. Supported.
• Controlled load, like off-peak hot water. Supported.
• Your meter. We work with all meter types. Plan matching works best with interval data, however matching from 3-monthly data is still possible.
• Gas. Electricity only for now.
